Introduction: As a result of the rapid development witnessed by Iraqi society and the increased veterinary awareness in raising pets, especially cats and dogs, Aim: therefore this research goal to use temporary contraceptive for reproduction of female cats for controlling generation. Methodology: two groups at random divided to: group 1 without any treatment served as the control group and group 2 will receive subcutaneous melatonin implants (melatonin 18 mg/Kg BW. SC), as single dose administered via an applicator that is positioned interscapular region. Results: body weight in cats treated with melatonin implant which appeared non significantly differences in the initial BW while the final BW statistically decrement, also melatonin implants causes decrement in all reproductive hormones, while non-significantly differences in lipid profile except decrement in TG and LDL parameters and similarity in MDA and lowering in prolactin comparatively to control group. In conclusion: from based on the results obtained in this research, It has been proven that efficacy and safety of melatonin implant act as a temporary contraceptive in female Persian cats have been demonstrated through its effects on estrus suppression and fertility regulation.
